A Bright Future

Dave Cumber Vets relocated to Link Park Weymouth in 2016 from the former surgery in Chickerell Road.  The relocation was a bold move for the organisation, enabling them to offer a variety of new services and facilities for customers, including large modern client waiting areas, state of the art diagnostics and treatments, x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy suites, plus separate dog and cat wards including a dedicated dental suite.

Dave Cumber originally joined the practice and later became a joint partner with Mr Martin Fielding and so the practice grew with surgeries in Weymouth and Dorchester.  After 34 years in veterinary practice, Dave took the decision at the very start of the year to retire in September 2020. The business will continue to trade under the Dave Cumber Vets name and the veterinary care will be maintained and enhanced under the care of the new Clinical Directors, Amy Bowen BVSc PgC(FVS) AVP MRCVS and Stuart Bond BVetMed MRCVS.  Stuart has been with the practice for over 10 years and Amy for 8, both are still able to recall the day that Dave welcomed them into the Dave Cumber Vets family.

Amy and Stuart both said “We are excited about the future of Dave Cumber Vets, the surgery is going from strength to strength and we are looking forward to expanding the veterinarian team by welcoming Tom Chapman BVSc MRCVS and Javier del Real Garcia LV/DVM MRCVS.  Taking on this role whilst navigating the challenges to the business and the staff that Covid-19 has presented, has been tough but nevertheless rewarding.  We would like to thank Dave for his amazing contribution over the years and on behalf of the team, would like to let him know how much his emotional and clinical support will be missed.”

Dave Cumber, Director of Dave Cumber Vets said “I have really loved building the practice over the past 34 years. It was always my dream to have a purpose-built well-equipped surgery in Weymouth. I am hugely proud that I have left behind one of the best surgeries in the South West. I could not have achieved that without the support and dedication of a great team.  Having worked with Amy and Stuart for several years, I know that I am leaving the surgery in safe hands. I wish them the very best of luck.   I will miss seeing my clients and their pets, many of whom have become good friends. Gru, Margot, Kate and I are busy planning to explore the canal network by narrowboat.”

In addition to the surgery at Link Park, Weymouth the surgery at 86, Mellstock Avenue, Dorchester, will continue to offer first class friendly pet care as it has always done.

In total Dave Cumber Vets employ 38 people in both Weymouth and Dorchester and continues to grow.   Dave Cumber Vets will continue to operate as your family vets where our ethos will be to serve and care for your pets as if they were our own.

Amy and Stuart would like to take this opportunity to thank the Dave Cumber Vets team and clients for their support and understanding since March, through what have been troubling, emotional, and financial times for all.

Dave Cumber Vets surgeries are located at Unit D1 Link Park, Chickerell Link Road, Weymouth or 86, Mellstock Avenue, Dorchester.
