We are proud to be sponsoring the “Wessex FM Big Weymouth Walkies” dog walking event for the second time on Sunday 14th April 2019, which is the last Sunday that dogs are officially allowed on the whole stretch of Weymouth Beach.
Dogs are not allowed on the beach area between Greenhill Groyne and the Pier end of Weymouth beach from Good Friday 19th April 2019 – 31st October 2019 inclusive. Many organisations will be taking part in the event this year, including Bella Ceramics who will offering creating skills for visitors to make ceramic paw prints, Forever Hounds Trust, Margaret Green Animal Rescue, Hills Pet Nutrition, Nowzad – Winning the war for animals, Wessex Assisting Dogs and the Flyball team who will be organising demonstrations and trial agility routes.
Dave Cumber, of Dave Cumber Vets said “It is very important that dogs and their owners take regular exercise. Weymouth beach and many other Dorset beaches make a perfect exercise route for a lot of people. During the “Wessex FM Big Weymouth Walkies” event this year we are celebrating dogs in the community such as Wessex Assisting Dogs, and other organisations that involve dogs in the local community. There will also be lots of things to do including, refreshments, music from Wessex FM, pet food and supplies, dog agility, advice and guidance from the Dave Cumber Vets team plus goody bags and FREE poo bags”.
The “Wessex FM Big Weymouth Walkies” event will start at 10.30am and there is no need to pre-register, simply turn up at the Pavilion end of the beach with your dog on a lead. The walk will continue up to Greenhill and then return to the Pavilion. Dog walkers are free to leave the walk at any time. Refreshments will be provided at Auntie Vi’s beach kiosk at the end of Brunswick Terrace.
Dave Cumber Vets team will also be holding a Charity Cake stall to raise funds for the Cinnamon Trust. The Cinnamon Trust runs a network of 15,000 volunteers who “hold hands” with pet owners and help to provide vital loving care for their pets. The volunteers help to keep owners and pets together – for example, they will walk a dog every day for a housebound owner, or foster pets when owners need hospital care. All proceeds from the cake stall will be raised for the Cinnamon Trust.
